I’ve talked about my heavy lifting journey a few times on this blog. Heavy lifting is something that I’m really passionate about. I’m especially passionate about heavy lifting for women and it’s benefits. Heavy lifting also has helped make me a better mother. What I didn’t mention is that I’m embarking on a year long heavy lifting journey. My mission is to see how heavy lifting will continue improve my health and body.
The reason I started with Strong Lifts 5×5 because it was the easiest program to follow. Here is an example of the workouts.
Overhead Press 5×5
Bench Press 5×5
Barbell Row 5×5
Let’s get to what I like and didn’t like about the program.
-Easy to follow
-It really does increase strength
-Doesn’t take long to complete the workout
-You can download free app to track workouts
-Muscles don’t gain much definition
-Must eat a lot in order to continue to grow strength (this makes it hard to lose weight if you follow program exactly)
-It gets redundant and boring after a while
I didn’t loss weight doing this program. I actually gained weight however I did loss a few inches from my waist. I was breastfeeding full-time while doing this program so I really wasn’t for sure how many calories to consume. However, let’s just say I was hungry ALL OF THE TIME! My legs did get toned and it made my butt firm. The upper body exercises were tough. That is because woman tend to have weaker upper bodies.
Despite my dislikes of this program I loved it! I give this program 4.5 out of 5 stars. I think Stronglift 5×5 is great for woman.
I’m doing Strong Curves A Woman’s Guide to Building A Better Butt and Body for my next heavy lifting program.
Once I’m half way through the program I will update.
Do you do any heavy lifting? Or weight lifting? Do you like it?
