Eat Healthy At Dollar Tree

Earlier this year a Dollar Tree opened up by our house.  Can I say that I’ve been addicted ever since?  I also think my Dollar Tree addiction has rubbed off on my husband.  He’ll go for one item and come back with 20!  LOL. Eating healthy on a budget doesn’t have to be impossible.  In this post I will share how to Eat Healthy At Dollar Tree.

Eat Healthy

If you read my previous post you can see I’m passionate about living a frugal life style.  I’m not able to do all of the things we used to do to save.  Because let’s face it children get older, families grow, and it makes the cost of living increase.  I’m also pregnant and I’m trying to stick to a healthy diet.  Now I try to contribute to our household in other ways.  One is shopping at the Dollar Tree!  LOL.  There are tons of post on Dollar Tree finds, and if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon I highly suggest you do.  Your wallet and budget will thank you!

Eat Healthy At Dollar Tree

We do a majority of our grocery shopping at Aldi and Meijer.  However, I have found that Dollar Tree carries certain items that are cheaper.  Also, when there isn’t much money left in the grocery budget I will go to the Dollar Tree for last minute meal ingredients.

Today I’m going to share with you my top 10 items to purchase at Dollar Tree to help you eat healthy and stay on a budget.  You can throw together a healthy and simple  meal using the items I’m going to list below.

Frozen Berries

Our Dollar Tree has a nice size frozen food section.  Originally I used to buy our frozen berries at Aldi’s for $2.09 a bag, but I discovered Dollar Tree has them.  It’s  no brainer, I’m going with Dollar Tree.  This helps me keep my smoothie budget low, and they taste just as good.  They are great for making smoothies.

Frozen Fajita Mix

I love using this mix for stir fry’s or when I make fajita’s.  Dollar Tree  is the only place that I can find the specific mix for a reasonable price.

Jif To Go Creamy Peanut Butter

I like these for when me and the kids are in a rush and I need a quick snack.  It’s already prepackage and I can just throw it in my bag and go.  I usually pair it with celery.

Black Beans

I love black beans because they are diverse.  I make spicy black bean soup with these and it is so so yummy!

Jenni-O Frozen Turkey Patti

This is a good options when you don’t need a large portion.  Sometimes when my husband is out of town I buy this for me and the kids.

Frozen fish

Dollar Tree also sells individually package pollock and cod filets.  I use these when I want to eat something different from my family.  I’m not a big chicken, turkey, or steak person, therefore I eat a lot of fish.

I use oatmeal in my morning smoothies sometimes to help keep me fuller longer.  We go thru a lot of oatmeal in our house hold.  I top the kids oatmeal with fresh fruit and nuts for breakfast.

Fruit and nut mix

I love, love, love Dollar Tree’s fruit and nut mixes for snacks.

Clif bars

My Dollar Tree doesn’t always carry Clif bars, but when they do I stock  up.  These can be used as a meal replacement or pre workout snack.  Not to mention my kids love them.

If I don’t feel like going to a larger grocery store I will grab some eggs from Dollar Tree.

Nature valley honey and oat bars

Again, these are another great snack.  When I’m busy I give these to my kids to hold them over until the next meal.

  1. I have a dollar store addiction as well. But we shop there for craft items. When I was big on couponing I would get tooth paste for free. Like 20 of them once. So yes you can use your coupons at the dollar store. I need to buy dozen fruit there. What a deal. 🙂

  2. I keep forgetting about the Dollar Tree, which is ridiculous because there are so many in my town. We don’t have much, but there are a ton of dollar stores! Now I need some “mommy time” so I can go check them out without the kids. 🙂

  3. I keep forgetting that some dollar stores have a food section and a frozen section. I think I need to start going to more of these because there’s no reason to pay more for the items you listed.

  4. I have recent become obsessed with the Dollar Tree because of all of their awesome craft supplies. I need to see if the Dollar Tree by me has any of these food items. I’m definitely saving this list.

  5. […] My goal for this recipe was to keep it budget friendly.  I really don’t think living a healthy more holistic lifestyle has to be expensive.  I found the coconut oil at Aldi and the rest of the ingredients at Whole Foods Market (Lavender, Beeswax and , Shea butter).  I also found the cute little tin at Dollar Tree.
