DIY Healthy Hair Potion

Healthy Hair

The first part of this summer was very dry, so much so that my hair started to suffer.  I’m a curly girl, and my hair likes humidity. Humidity helps my hair stay moisturized and soft.

Unfortunately, my hair started to break off and I needed something to help revive it ASAP!  I purchased different products but most were filled with nasty ingredients that did nothing for my hair.  So after me and my wallet were fed up, I began making my own hair products.  My first creation was what I like to call a Healthy Hair Potion.  I’ve been using on me and my kids hair.  Apparently, we needed this potion because I’ve seen drastic improvements in our hairs health, thickness, and growth.

How To Use It

You can use the healthy hair potion in three ways

  1. Pre shampoo treatment– Just spray a little on your hair before shampooing, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.  Afterwards, just shampoo like you normally would.  When I do this method my hair is so soft and doesn’t feel stripped when shampooing.
  2. Leave in conditioning treatment – I use this method a lot for my children.  In the mornings when I style their hair I spray a little of the healthy hair potion on their hair.  Since they have a different hair type then me, the consistency is not to oily for everyday use for them.  I only use it after I wash my hair as a leave-in conditioner.
  3. Scalp Treatment – This oil can be used to moisturize a dry scalp.  Once it’s been sprayed on your scalp massage it for 5-10 to get all of it’s amazing benefits.

What Are The Benefits?

This hair treatment contains 5 amazing oils that are great for hair.

Coconut Oil   “Coconut oil is loaded with natural antioxidants and nutrients such as Vitamin E, Vitamin K and Iron. Each of these plays a key role in keeping your hair soft and supple, and Iron can even eradicate dandruff from the scalp”.

Sweet Almond Oil “Is rich in Vitamin E, monounsaturated fatty acids, proteins, potassium and zinc, besides a number of other minerals and vitamins, which explains why it is so good for our heart, skin and hair”.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil “A hormone called DTH is the culprit in many cases of hair loss, as it causes the hair follicle shaft to narrow. Olive oil actually stops this from happening, which means you can hold onto your hair for longer”.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil “Castor oil has been used for centuries to treat a number of ailments. Containing Vitamin E and Omega-6 fatty acids, Jamaican castor oil has many topical uses and is a natural hair treatment. Jamaican black castor is more popular since it raw, so it has more nutrients that thicken the hair”.

Tea Tree Oil “Tea tree oil has many natural anti fungal, antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, and anti-infection properties which effectively deal with certain hair-related problems.  Tea tree oil removes dead cells, unblocks hair follicles, and boosts the immune system which is then able to fight against infections that lead to hair loss, thus preventing head lice and dandruff”.

How To Make Healthy Hair Potion

Healthy hair potion is really easy to make.  I purchased a cute glass bottle from Target, and filled it with all of the oils mentioned above.  You can play with the ratio of oils depending on your needs.  I used majority Sweet Almond Oil and Coconut oil since those two are the lightest.  Then toward the end I began adding the heavier oils (EV Olive oil and Castor Oil).  Also, before doing this I melted the coconut oil by placing it under warm running water.  When I was done combining the oils I added 6-8 drops of Tea Tree oil.

  1. I love this so much. Natural products are the best. It is nice to know that you are using great products. Especially, coconut oil. We love coconut oil at our house. Thanks for sharing dear.

  2. I have curly/wavy hair that gets super frizzy in the humidity and I live in Texas so pretty much it’s always humid–so will this help my hair not be so frizzy? I would love to make my own hair products and skip the chemicals!
