Truly’s Natural Deodorant Review

I’ve been on the hunt for a natural deodorant.  I tried a natural deodorant that was featured on a popular show, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype.  I was about to give up, but I just knew that there had to be a natural deodorant that actually worked.  Did I find a winner or dud? Keep reading to find out if Truly’s Natural Deodorant worked for me.

The Ingredients

I won’t go into all of the details on why conventional deodorants are bad, but you can read why here.   Luckily, I had the chance to try Truly’s Natural Deodorant.  This deodorant only has 4 ingredients!  Yes! Only 4!  I was a bit skeptical that it would work because my conventional deodorants have at least double that amount in ingredients.

The ingredients include:

  • Organic coconut oil
  • Organic Powdered sugar (Organic Sugar, Organic Tapioca Starch)
  • Baking soda
  • Beeswax

Here is why the Powdered Sugar works (taken from their website):

The sugar in our deodorant combines with your own perspiration to create a hyper osmotic solution that prevents odor causing bacterial growth.  Before antibiotics, sugar and honey were used to prevent infections in open wounds. In an article called “The Sweet Art of Healing”,  Dr. Julian Whitaker explains why they work:

“When sugar or honey is packed on top of and inside of an open wound, it dissolves in the fluid exuding from the wound, creating a hyperosmotic, or highly concentrated, medium. Bacteria cannot live in a hyperosmotic environment any more than a goldfish could survive in the Great Salt Lake. Scientists have tested the viability of many types of bacteria, including Klebsiella, Shigella, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pyogenes, and none of them have been able to survive in a honey or sugar solution.”(1)

Truly’s Natural Deodorant smells like coconut oil and has the texture of a slightly thicker coconut oil.  It only takes a pea sized amount under each arm to work.  They also have a version that is safe for children.

Did It Work?

I was eager to take it for a test run at my mom’s workout class.  I put some on and worked up a sweat in the sweltering heat.  And guess what? It held up!  There was no stinky sweaty smell at all.  My arm pits actually felt like they could breathe.

I continued to wear it for the rest of the week and not once did I have any moments when my armpits got funky.  There were times when it didn’t block the sweat, but that happens even when I wore my chemical filled deodorant.

As you can see my jar is 75% gone because I love this deodorant that much!  I will note that if you have sensitive skin then the adult formula may be too harsh for you.  You probably should try the children’s formula. Also, don’t use on broken skin or freshly shaven skin.  I will say that I used after I shaved and didn’t have a problem.
