I’ve talked about my heavy lifting journey a few times on this blog.  Heavy lifting is something that I’m really passionate about.  I’m especially passionate about heavy lifting for women and it benefits. Heavy lifting also has helped make me a better mother.   My mission is to see how heavy lifting will continue to improve my health and body, in particular, stronglifts 5×5 for women.

Before I started stronglifts 5×5 I had no previous experience with heavy lifting.  I chose this program because of it very easy to follow.  I made sure to follow the tutorials on how to properly do each lift.  The form is very important and I didn’t want to injure myself.

I also purchased some great lifting gloves to protect my hands.  Once I got my gloves I started with the program using no weights on the bars.  I wanted to make sure my form was good.  Practicing in the gym mirrors really helped me with this.

Like I mentioned above the 5×5 workout is very simple and easy to follow.  It is a 12-week program that you do 3 days a week.  Some weeks I was only able to do 2 days because I have kids and it was hard to make it to the gym.
The 5×5 App was also a great addition to my workout.  It made it easy to track my progress and weights I used.  I highly recommend using the app to help log workouts.

5×5 StrongLifts For Women Results:

Let’s get to what I like and didn’t like about the program:
  • Easy to follow
  • It really does increase strength
  • Doesn’t take long to complete the workout
  • You can download free app to track workouts


  • Muscles don’t gain many definitions
  • Must eat a lot in order to continue to grow strength (this makes it hard to lose weight if you follow program exactly)
  • It gets redundant and boring after a while
I didn’t lose weight doing this program, I actually gained weight.  However, I did lose a few inches from my waist.  I was breastfeeding full-time while doing this program so I really wasn’t for sure how many calories to consume. I was hungry ALL OF THE TIME!  My legs did get toned and it made my butt firm.  The upper body exercises were tough.  That is because woman tends to have weaker upper bodies.
Despite my dislikes of this program, I loved it!  I give stronglifts 5×5 for women program 4.5 out of 5 stars.  I think Stronglifts 5×5 is great women.
