Traveling As A Military Family

It is PCSing season!  While, some people hate it, I actually love it!  Okay maybe I don’t enjoy the packing up all of our belongings and unpacking, but I love the traveling aspect!  We aren’t PCSing as I speak however, there is a chance that it could still happen very soon.  I’m not a veteran military spouse and I’ve only PCS’d one time, and that is when we made our move from Utah to Chicagoland.  Luckily, the military made the process less stressful.

Another way to make the PCSing process less stress is having a travel plan before moving.  Some families choose to fly to their new destinations and some choose to drive.  We always choose to drive.  For us it’s a lot less stressful with 2 little kids in tow.  We are able to stop and take rest, and the kids can sleep comfortably in the car.

Apart of having a travel plan is knowing where to stay along the way. It’s best to know when and where you are going to stay along the way.  It’s best to check out hotels that are military friendly.   Recently, me and my family got the pleasure of staying at Extended Stay America Hotel.  The great thing about Extended Stay Hotels are that they are very military friendly.  They are always at or below per diem and with PCS, and they have national discounts in place just for military families at all 600+ hotels!  We will definitely make Extended Stay apart of our traveling plans next time we PCS or do a staycation.

Each room has a full size fridge, stove and a sink.  This is great for military families who are PCSing because instead of wasting money on take out you can go grocery shopping and cook in your hotel room.  They also have a laundry facility, Wi-Fi, and grab-and-go breakfast. It feels like home away from home.  I feel all of these amenities make PCSing a lot easier.  Especially, the laundry facility.  The rooms are very clean and the customer service was great!  They made us feel so welcome.Extended Stay America

How cute is this little basket they left for the kids?

I had to hurry up and snap pictures of the beds before the kids went crazy.  We had to hold them back while I took this picture. Once I snapped the pictures we let me loose like  eager baby tigers!  LOL.

The grab and go breakfast station. Me and my husband agreed, this was the best coffee we had in awhile.

Our weekend at Extended Stay America was nothing short of awesome.  Extended Stay America made our stay so special and my family appreciates them for accommodating us.  Honey Bee and Bumble had so much fun!  And me and my husband got to relax, and have a mini staycation.  We will definitely will be using Extended Stay America during our next PCS.

  1. The fact that these hotels come with a little kitchen is brilliant – travel and having to eat all your meals out gets expensive, and annoying sometimes. And I love the breakfast station. Definitely military friendly. We’ll have to look into the Extended Stay hotels if we end up getting active and moving.

  2. Wow, looks like a great place to stay!! I am really most surprised about the coffee. It is amazing how many hotels have coffee that tastes like dirt. I mean really, coffee is NOT that expensive, people. In fact, I don’t think I ever had a good coffee at a hotel, and I’ve stayed at a lot of nice ones with my hubby while he traveled for business. Sorry, I got a little hung up on the coffee thing….the grab n go breakfast sounds great too, and the kids’ basket was adorable as well!

    1. Hahahaha! That’s okay, coffee is important. I’m not really a coffee person, but wow…that cup that I had blew me away. If I wasn’t pregnant I would have had another!

  3. My children love staying in a new place. Especially, my younger they think it is a blast. Having a kitchen for us is a must. Kids always want to eat. We also love knowing that there is a laundry room near by. This way we don’t have to bring our whole closet. 🙂
