I remember walking into the gymnasium hesitantly. I was 5 months postpartum and very self-conscious. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I joined FIT4MOM workout group for moms. Would I encounter ultra fit moms who looked down on an out of shape mom like me? Or would I feel like the odd girl out while doing exercises? If you couldn’t tell by now, I was nervous.
I hadn’t done heavy lifting since my 5th month of pregnancy and the only exercising I did during the rest of my pregnancy was walking. I was ready to get back into the fitness game and doing FIT4MOM was a great start.
I was greeted with a warm smile by Char, one of the group’s fitness instructors. During warm up everyone introduced themselves. Instantly, all of my worries were put at ease. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I could tell I was going to love FIT4MOM.
What FIT4MOM Stands For
After having my third child, going to the gym was nearly impossible. I also hate working out at home so I needed something that could work for me. I was familiar with FIT4MOM because they advertise at the local recreation center. So I finally decided to take the plunge and join. The cost is very reasonable so I went for it!
I love what FIT4MOM stands for. Their mission is as follows:
- We will help moms achieve their ultimate potential, both physically and emotionally.
- We will offer support and education for moms.
- We will inspire moms to reach optimal health and well being.
- We will inspire children to emulate their moms and make fitness a part of their lives. Source
I love that the instructors put so much thought into each class. There is usually a fun theme, so each class is exciting and it doesn’t get redundant. Their passion for FIT4MOM is contagious and I find myself so happy to work out each time I go to class.
Also, the FIT4MOM kids can play while we work out. Or they can get in the stroller and come along! It feels so easy and natural to work out with my kids, and it no longer feels like a burden.
The social aspect is awesome. Not only do we moms get to be a part of a supportive community, the children do too! They get to play and meet new friends during class, and then especially enjoy the play dates after class. Sometimes they’re themed and sometimes not but they’re always fun. This part really is important to me because some days I don’t have enough energy to work out and then meet somewhere else for a play date. So having this structure really works for us (and I’m sure for other moms as well).
There are also community events that FIT4MOM has for us. A few weeks ago we did a milk alternatives tasting at Whole Foods Market where there are regular events. Also regularly they have play dates at Crossroads church where you show up and find the rooms are already full of toys. They don’t forget about the other needs of moms either. Mom’s Night Outs include a book club, knitting club, occasional movie outings and whatever else comes up. Family events (and even family workouts) fill the schedule too.
Here are a few pictures from a Paw Patrol themed workout a few weeks ago.
Giving back and building community is a big part of the FIT4MOM mission. They have raised “hundreds of thousands of dollars for March of Dimes, Breast Cancer Fund and Healthy Child Healthy World. Our newest initiative is working with CharityMiles.org to broaden our mission”. Source
It feels good to be a part of a community of women who are in the same stages of life, and they get it. They get that it’s not always easy to be a mom trying to get fit, yet they support our journeys. They get that our kids may have bad days, and there is always someone there helping and offering words of encouragement. They get that we moms need community and support during this season of our lives, and they make it possible for us to have a life and get healthy. LOL.
