How To Go Grocery Shopping With Three Kids – #CafeBusteloAtMeijer

I have a confession.  I love grocery shopping with my kids. After having three little ones I pretty much have grocery shopping down to a science.  There are little hacks I implement to make our trek to the grocery store a lot easier.  We are able to get in and out the grocery store with minimal issues.

My kids love when we go grocery shopping at Meijer, and so do I! There are certain features that Meijer’s has, that makes my life easier as a mom.  Because let’s be honest, there are times when having little ones in tow can make grocery shopping a little difficult. However, I’m a firm believer in us parents making life easier for ourselves.  I’m hoping my tips on how I go grocery shopping with three kids, helps.

How To Go Grocery Shopping With Three Kids

Make Sure I’m Fueled Up For The Day

I view grocery shopping with my kids as a mini marathon.  I have to get my tiny humans in and out of their car seats. Lift them up to get into the cart, and push them around. It can be exhausting!  So I make sure to drink my morning smoothie and I bring coffee using Café Bustelo® with me (the yummy recipe is below).  I believe that in order for our grocery shopping trip to be successful and a pleasant one that I need to feel my best.

Bring Snacks

I used to be so unprepared concerning snacks. After a few melt downs from hunger, I’ve learned my lesson.  So I pop a few healthy snacks in my purse for when my kids get hungry. This is an important step because it cuts down on them begging for food in the store and keeps us from eating something unhealthy.

Leave Early

My local Meijer’s is open 24/7!  Yes, you heard that right!  This might be the #1  reason I like shopping at Meijer.  We can get out early before the crowds and enjoy a leisurely stroll around the store. I can browse and take my time.  And the kids are usually in really good spirits because they just woke up.

Park Next to a Cart Corral

I feel like this is a must when grocery shopping with kids.  I like parking next to the cart carrol because I can hop out of my car and grab a cart and head into the store.  Also, when it is time to go I can easily put the cart back without having to leave my kids alone in the car.

Promise to See Something Fun!

The Meijer’s near my home has little “Fishy’s” in the back of the store.  If my kids behave, then we can go back to see them.  My son also likes seeing the lobsters, so if everything goes accordingly, I take my kids to see their little friends. But first I had to stop to get my coffee!

Bullet Proof Cafe De Olla recipe

On days when I’m feeling fancy, I like to bring a coffee with me when we go grocery shopping. Since I suffer from anxiety I can’t drink just plain coffee, but I can drink bullet proof coffee with no issues.  So I’m going to share a delicious recipe I made recently using Café Bustelo in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Café Bustelo has a bold flavor that can stand up to the ingredients in cafe de olla recipe. What I love is that Café Bustelo is a high-quality Hispanic coffee that connects you to the rich Latin culture. Café Bustelo is available in a variety of forms at Meijer.  It comes in ground, whole bean, brick, and Instant. There is a$1 off in-store coupon until 10/14, this excludes instant coffee.

  • 1-2 tsp of coconut oil
  • dash of almond milk

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the coffee grounds with 1-quart water, the sugar, cinnamon and orange peel. Stir to combine and bring to slow boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Remove from the heat and let steep, covered for 5 minutes. Strain, through a fine mesh strainer, into cups and serve.
