There is no greater uncertainty than when you become a new first-time mom.  After my first daughter was born, I was clueless about how to care for her.  I remember asking the nurses the silliest questions.  They never made me feel crazy.  They reassured me and kindly answered my inquiries.  Dealing with a first-time mom like me was nothing new to them.

I was very nervous about bringing my baby home from the hospital.  There would no longer be the support of the nursing staff.  I would be on my own once my husband flew back to his duty station and my in-laws and mother left.

When I came home from the hospital I was greeted by a lovely new mommy basket that my mother-in-law had made for me.  It contained items just for me, to make me feel reassured as I embarked on my journey into motherhood.  It was the perfect way for me to start life with my new baby.

New Mom Basket Tutorial

I loved my new basket so much that I created a tutorial below. Mine has three personal touches to make this basket extra special.  The first is a printable feeding tracker for baby.  The second is a no-sew DIY heating pack.  The third is a bottle of Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA vitamins, that I purchased from Sam’s Club.

They are also clinically proven absorption of folic acid and iron.  Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA soft gel is also easy-to-swallow. It also provides essential vitamins and minerals (before and during pregnancy) including Folic Acid, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Iodine, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin D3†.  Head to Sam’s Club to pick up a bottle.

Heating Pack Supplies:

Rice

Essential Oils

Cut Fabric into a circle. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Then take your rice and mix it in a bowl with a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

Once the flannel is cut into a circle gather it up in a bunch.  There will be a small opening at the top.  You can slowly spoon in the rice and essential oil mix.

Cut a slender piece of fabric and tie it around the bunch of fabric.

I didn’t need to microwave my heating pack long for it to warm nicely. About 30-40 seconds on high.  I actually had to use mine because I bumped my head.  It felt really nice.

  1. This is a gift basket any new mom would love to have. My unit gave me a really nice basket after I had Madison and it was well received. When you have a baby, you need all the help (and rest) you can get, so anything that helps in those areas are always welcomed.
