A few week ago we developed a nasty stomach bug.  Of course, I took to Google to find a solution.  I found a list of remedies and turmeric popped up.  I was very excited because turmeric is something we keep on hand because of all of the claims of its health benefits. During cold winters turmeric milk is apart of our nightly routine.  My kids enjoy sipping this warm dairy-free turmeric milk.

I don’t make my turmeric milk the traditional way.  For starters, I use vanilla almond milk (this actually is what makes the milk taste amazing)!  Most recipes for turmeric milk is made with cows milk, but I can’t drink cows milk.  However, with this dairy-free turmeric milk recipe, you won’t miss the cow’s milk.   I also, add a few other yummy ingredients, which I will name below.  Each of those ingredients has its own special purpose.

So back to this nasty stomach bug.  I made us all a big pot of turmeric milk and just like that, the stomach bug calmed down  A LOT. Instead of me being in the bathroom or changing a diaper every 30 minutes, I was doing those things every few hours.  As you can see I didn’t say this was a miracle cure, but it did help a lot.

There are two crucial steps that make my dairy-free turmeric milk taste delicious.  The first is the vanilla almond milk, and the second is using a blender to blend my ingredients before I heat it on the stove.  I have Nutri Bullet, and using it in this recipes makes the turmeric milk frothy and slightly creamy.

Dairy-Free Turmeric Milk

The Recipe:

3 Cups of Vanilla Almond Milk

A Knob Fresh Turmeric or 1/2 Tablespoon of Turmeric Powder

A fingertip-size piece of ginger

A Pinch of Black Pepper

1/2 teaspoon of Cinnamon

1 teaspoon Coconut Oil


Pour the almond milk, ginger, turmeric in a blender and blend for 1-2 minutes.  After that is blended pour mixture into a saucepan and heat on low heat on the stove.  Don’t turn on high because the almond milk will separate.  While the mixture is heating add two pinches of cinnamon, black pepper, and coconut oil.

Once the mixture is warm pour into a mug and enjoy!
